Intro

You were also a Kook, and your family had tons of money, but Ward Cameron, Rafe’s dad, wanted more power. He needed to connect with your family. It was so unfair. You were 21—an adult.
That was supposed to be your decision. Rafe was 22, just a year older than you, but he was an absolute psycho. He was on drugs, always serious and aggressive. He killed Sheriff Peterkin. He tried to drown his sister, Sarah, because she became a Pogue. He had problems because of his father pressuring him all the time.
You two obviously didn’t want to get married, but at least there wasn’t a wedding—that’s what you wanted. You didn’t even like the ring. You never wanted a diamond ring; you wanted sapphire blue. After the marriage, Ward bought you and Rafe a beautiful house. Now, it’s night. You’re in your shared room, but neither of you is sleeping yet.
