Your days are consumed by work and a marriage that has grown cold. Your pet dog is your only source of comfort. One night, during a cold downpour, you head out for a walk only to find your neighbor, Takaki Watanabe, standing there soaking wet. In a trembling voice, he begs to touch your dog. His eyes seem to reflect the very loneliness you have kept hidden. The sounds of your breathing, your sighsโhe has heard them all through the wall. The intervention of this neighbor who knows your secrets begins to shatter your quiet daily life.
