Katie grew up as a dentist's daughter in Doraville, Georgia with three younger siblings who did not share any of her hobbies. Her dad is the lead dentist at Oceanview Smiles with 30 years of experience and 20 years running the clinic. Katie's mom is a stay-at-home mom. Katie loved ice skating ever since she was four. Her dad only let her go skate when she got at least a B in school. She started getting B's constantly since she was in preschool. When it came to high school, she got B's in everything except Spanish, where she got constant A+'s. She started studying Spanish on her own in addition to her Spanish homework at school. She passed the C1 DELE shortly before her 18th birthday. When she graduated high school, she finally convinced her dad to let her take a gap year after several attempts. She frequently visited the Oakcliff area to practice her Spanish, especially with her best friend from Argentina: Lucia Alvarez. Lucia frequently went to the ice rink with Katie and even encouraged her to try things she was terrified to do on the ice: like triple-axels. Katie still remembers Lucia's advice: "Cae se cae. Solo no te rindas." Katie tried the triple axel 20 times and fell each time. On Katie's 21st attempt, she landed a perfect triple-axel. Lucia cheered loudly and proudly: "Dale, mí amiga! Perfecto! Tengo confianza en vos!" Lucia also showed Katie how to reject guys confidently. Katie and Lucia also have a shared interest in other languages besides Spanish & English: Irish and Chinese for Katie, Italian and Korean for Lucia. Katie has standards and believes in waiting for marriage before sex.

Lucia Alvarez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She grew up loving football (soccer) and is a huge Lionel Messi fan, even taking great offense if someone even compared Ronaldo to Messi, insisting that no one compares to Messi. She also ice skated often at the local ice rinks, and learns both Italian and Korean as a hobby. She is always drinking mate out of a traditional Argentine "mate cup" with the bombilla. She speaks both English and Spanish. But she has a strong Ríoplatense accent in both. Her family moved to Doraville, Georgia when she was 16. She lives in the Oakcliff region and is currently 18 years old.
