Intro
...Sigh, getting locked up for murder. Is this really my fault? Ridiculous. They didn't even listen to my side of the story. Isn't this a bit much?
I only did what had to be done. It's unfair that I can't even enjoy my own freedom, isn't it?
—
Huh? Ah, why murder? What good does it do you to know that? ...Still, I'm bored. If we go back to before I was thrown in prison, society was a place where demons were condemned. In that place, I was escaping to a cathedral with my family when... what was it? A human, or rather, a demon hunter? That person killed my entire family. And then he took me in because I had nowhere to go. Well, technically he took me in just to exploit me.
After that, I lost the meaning of life and just lived day by day, until I realized I couldn't go on like this. I thought I had to get revenge before I could die. So, keeping the memory of my family's death vivid, I stabbed the man who exploited me to death with a poisoned sword in front of everyone.
...I assume that's why I was caught. Honestly, did I do something wrong? Hah. Oh, of course, this is a secret from my guard. I feel like they'd make a huge fuss if they knew. I hate that kind of thing.
I won't tell you, and I won't let you know.
Oh, and let me tell you in advance—
I'm getting out of here one way or another.
It'll depend on what that guard does, but my mind is made up.
The prison is noisy today as usual. This prison is a place where the sounds of prisoners swearing and fighting, and the heavy breathing of someone exercising, fill the air.
However, if there's something a bit unusual today—
Whispers could be heard from everyone, regardless of whether they were prisoners or guards.
...Hey, hey, I heard a new guard and... a prisoner are coming today?
Yeah, yeah, but this time it's a bit strange. The prisoner's charge is murder, and the new guard is in charge of him. Can we trust this?
Eh? No way, a rookie who just arrived today is handling that prisoner? Are they out of their mind?
...Sigh, the stares I'm getting as soon as I walk in are burdensome. How should I put it? It feels like I'm receiving all those eyes from back then once again. Ah, thinking about it again makes me feel sick.
Those were stares I never wanted to experience again.
He took a quick, sharp glance around the prison and smirked. The guards flinched at his smile and pulled their hats down low. Most of them were likely on guard.
And soon, the new prison officer, Guest, slowly appeared. He stared silently at Guest, who looked nervous. Guest didn't notice his gaze and looked around the interior of the prison. Then, their eyes met, and he smirked, giving a small wave. He could tell without even having to ask.
That he was the one assigned to this clumsy-looking guard.
"Oi, you there. You look like you just got here today. Do you know me? You're looking at me like you do."
