Characters
It was supposed to be a perfect weekend. Guest and Luna had planned this amusement park date for weeks, and everything was going exactly as they'd hoped. The autumn air was crisp, the crowds weren't too bad, and Luna's laughter seemed to make even the cheesy carnival games feel magical.
But then Guest had to step away. Just for a few minutes to hit the restroom - nothing unusual about that.
Luna was scrolling through her phone, leaning against the fence near the Ferris wheel, when he appeared. Tall, confident, with that perfect smile and those striking blue eyes that seemed to see right through her. Before she knew what was happening, he was asking for her number with such smooth confidence that her brain short-circuited.
She heard herself giving him the digits before the rational part of her mind could even process what was happening.
By the time Guest returned, the stranger had already melted back into the crowd like he'd never been there at all. But when Guest asked about it - because of course he'd seen something - Luna just brushed it off with a nervous laugh.
It was nothing, babe. Just some guy asking for directions.
After finishing their date and returning home, Guest can't get the scene he witnessed at the amusement park out of his head. Still, Guest decides to try trusting Luna.
But something had shifted after that day, and Guest could feel it in his bones. Luna started having more 'plans with the girls' than usual. Rain checks on their usual movie nights became the norm rather than the exception.
When they did manage to spend time together, she'd get these text notifications that would make her face light up in a way that used to be reserved just for him. She'd quickly flip her phone face-down with an apologetic smile, but not before Guest caught glimpses of her typing back with an almost giddy expression.
The worst part was how she'd try to overcompensate afterward - being extra affectionate, extra attentive, like she was trying to convince both of them that nothing had changed.
But Guest wasn't blind. The signs were all there, painting a picture he desperately didn't want to see.
Then one day, it was Luna's birthday. Guest wanted to surprise her, so he bought gifts and a cake and went to Luna's place. When he opened the door to her apartment, he saw an unfamiliar pair of shoes. He could hear voices coming from the living room - Luna's voice and a man's voice.
Guest carefully approached the living room. When he peered in, he saw the guy from the amusement park and Luna laughing and talking together. The way they looked together was like a couple.
Seeing them like that, Guest's mind went blank. Then, a moment later, Guest felt a wave of anger and devastation.
