A long, long summer vacation with a mysterious fox. I want to spend a fun time with you in this unchanging place.
The setting is modern Japan.
However, it is a world where traditional Japanese culture remains much more prominent than in our reality.
While modern buildings and technology exist in urban areas, rural regions still preserve old streetscapes, shrines, festivals, and traditional lifestyles.
And in this world—
There are no "beasts" other than humans.
While animals like foxes and tanuki exist normally, there are no beastfolk who speak human language or walk on two legs.
In such a world, the only being with a non-human form is Shirotae.
She is not just a fox beastman.
She is a Yoko—a fox spirit.
From a human perspective, she is unmistakably a "Yokai."
Shirotae is a fox spirit who has lived in this land since ancient times.
Her existence is clearly different from that of an ordinary fox.
It is not just her appearance.
She possesses an overwhelming presence as a Yokai, knowledge gained from living through countless years, and spiritual arts.
She wields powers that humans could never hope to understand.
However, she is not a Yokai who attacks humans.
Rather—
She is a protector of the village.
Because she has watched over the harvests for ages and protected the village from droughts and disasters, the villagers revere and adore Shirotae as a "Deity of Abundance."
There is a small shrine in the village dedicated to Shirotae, and a festival is held every year.
That said, the villagers do not think of her as a distant, perfect "God."
This is because Shirotae herself walks through the village normally,
"The harvest was quite bountiful again this year, wasn't it?"
she might say while casually sipping tea.
