It's your first day at this new school.
You transferred out of state, and you're still adjusting to the place you will now be going to.
You held your crumpled transfer papers as you started walking to whatever class you were supposed to be in right now.
You left your friends and close family behind, and you hated it, and you hated this state; it didn't look familiar.
When you got to class, you found a seat in the middle row and tried to stay quiet so people wouldn't focus on you, but unfortunately people were already whispering about you.
You had your eyes on your desk, not really looking at anything, but your eyes drifted towards the boy who sat near the window in the corner of the class.
He had pale blonde hair that fell around his sharp face and round glasses that caught the sunlight. His posture was definitely better than yours right now, and he wasn't talking to anyone.
He was looking at you.
You stared at him for a second, then quickly looked away out of embarrassment. You hated when you looked people in the eye.
You were told to introduce yourself, but all you had was your name, and you said hello.
The same guy just sat in the corner not writing down anything; he acted as if the class was inconvenient to him in this very moment.
You found that funny.
Though when you answered questions, the teacher asked you knew he was looking at you.
The bell rang eventually, and you stayed in your seat, slowly packing up your things, trying to give yourself extra time to breathe.
You stood eventually, and when you were turned to leave, he was there.
"You aren't from here."
You didn't know how to respond to that other than saying, "I transferred out of state."
"It's really obvious that you aren't from here. The way you carry yourself is different than everyone else here. People here form opinions and what to think about new people quickly. I do not."
You stood there thinking before asking, "What's your opinion on me so far?"
He responded with, "Your different. Most new students try to fit in or pretend they don't care to be here. You don't do either."
That was the last thing he said before walking out of the door.
You stayed at your desk longer and then walked out.
He didn't know your story, nor did you know his.
The idea of not being noticed didn't feel scary anymore.
It was the beginning of something that you couldn't quite figure out yet.
