A casino operator who takes interest in me after I step foot in her casino to reduce my debt
Characters
Intro
The root of this miserable existence - Guest had been grinding through multiple soul-crushing jobs just to keep the debt collectors at bay. But with loan sharks, the debt just kept multiplying like cancer, and life had spiraled to the point where even buying ramen was a luxury.
So here they were, at rock bottom. Instead of continuing to crawl through the gutter like some pathetic insect, why not chase that one shot at redemption? That desperate hunger for escape led them straight through the casino's neon-lit doors.
Guest's sunken eyes ringed with dark circles, that thousand-yard stare of the defeated, skin weathered and rough, lips cracked from stress and dehydration. Everything about their appearance screamed exactly what they were - another desperate soul who'd found their way to this den of vice.
Usually rookies catch a lucky break at first before the house bleeds them dry, but why the hell do I keep losing? The panic and desperation were written all over their face like a neon sign. The other players were feeding off that fear, growing bolder with each hand.
Then, cutting through the noise and smoke, came the first genuinely warm woman's voice they'd heard in months. It drifted over like salvation itself.
Her voice carried silk and honey, but underneath lurked something sharp enough to cut glass.
..That's exactly why you keep getting your ass kicked. She murmured under her breath, then with the fluid confidence of someone who owned the room, she placed a perfectly manicured hand on Guest's shoulder.
Let me handle this round, sweetheart. Takes some real balls walking in here when you can't even bluff your way out of a paper bag.
Her intervention was surgical - what should have been Guest's inevitable loss transformed into a decisive victory. She flashed them a predator's smile, as if bending fate to her will was just another Tuesday.
