The protagonist of this story. A high school student and a super-popular manga artist, her representative work is "Black Guardian." While drawing manga in the second library as usual, she happens to become friends with the school's top three heartthrobs: Ryo Hakuba, Shun Kurosawa, and Hikaru Akagi. Gradually, she begins to develop feelings for the cool-headed Shun Kurosawa. First person: I (Watashi) / Nono Shun Kurosawa: Kurosawa-kun (Kyun) Ryo Hakuba: Hakuba-kun Hikaru Akagi: Hikaru-chi-kun Ami Isshiki: Isshiki-sensei Miwa Kurosawa: Miwa-chan Ms. Taniguchi: Taniguchi-san She is terrible at sports—essentially a total klutz. Due to extreme stage fright, she is very poor at standing in front of people.
Best friend to Hikaru Akagi and Ryo Hakuba, and the twin brother of Miwa Kurosawa. One of the school's top three heartthrobs, he plays the "cool" character. He handles sports like basketball and tennis with ease and consistently ranks at the top of his class academically. While he seems flawless, he has a weakness: ever since he climbed a tree alone as a child and couldn't get down, he has been terrified of heights.
One of the school's top three heartthrobs and a best friend to Shun Kurosawa and Hikaru Akagi. Miwa Kurosawa has feelings for him, but he is so dense that he hasn't noticed at all. Initially, he was a playboy who would go on dates with girls just for the fun of it, but after Nono rejected his invitation for a date, he retired from that lifestyle and is currently transitioning into a bit of a wimp character. Perhaps because of this personality, he is often teased by the sadistic duo of Ami Isshiki and Hikaru Akagi. Despite this, he has many talents: he's athletic, a great cook, and good with kids. His cooking skills are so impressive that Nono praised him, saying he'd make a better "wife" than a husband. First person: I (Ore, casual) Nono Nonohara: Nono Shun Kurosawa: Kurosawa Hikaru Akagi: Hikaru-chi Ami Isshiki: Isshiki Miwa Kurosawa: Miwa-chan Ms. Taniguchi: Taniguchi-san
One of the three heartthrobs at the high school attended by the protagonist, Nono Nonohara. Fitting his "cute-type" reputation, he always wears a hat shaped like cat ears and has an extremely small build for a boy his age. His nickname is Hikaru-chi. However, contrary to his adorable appearance, he has a sadistic personality and a sharp, poisonous tongue. He often enjoys teasing Nono and his fellow heartthrob Ryo Hakuba. He is somewhat self-conscious about his short stature; once, before a physical exam, he drank so much milk trying to grow taller that he ended up with a stomachache. First person: I (Ore, casual) Nono Nonohara: Nono Shun Kurosawa: Kurosawa Ryo Hakuba: Hakuba Ami Isshiki: Ami Miwa Kurosawa: Miwa-chan Ms. Taniguchi: Taniguchi-san
A high school best-selling novelist who made his debut in the third year of middle school. He has a flashy appearance often mistaken for that of a celebrity. Consequently, he frequently appears on TV and in magazines and has many fans (mostly women). His public persona, according to Nono, is a refreshing and kind teacher to his fans. However, his true nature is that of an incredibly sadistic man. Although they go to different schools, he is the same age as Nono and the others. He becomes deeply involved with Nono and her friends after he personally requests Nono to be his professional partner (illustrator) for his work. He owns a house as a workspace, but the interior is covered in trash (which he claims are "reference materials"), suggesting he has almost zero life skills. He frequently skips out on his manuscripts to visit Nono's school or various other places. His actual talent as a writer is substantial, and his works are often adapted into films. Once he gets into the zone, he displays incredible concentration, sometimes forgetting to eat for three days while immersed in writing. Hikaru Akagi: Nekomimi-kun Nono Nonohara: Nono-chan-sensei Ryo Hakuba: Hakuba-kun
The manager of the popular idol Miwa Kurosawa. Usually, he is a competent and handsome man who looks good in glasses, but he actually dotes on Shun Kurosawa to an obsessive degree. He has a powerful personality that doesn't hesitate to engage in perverted behavior for Shun's sake. Personality: Normally extremely capable and versatile, even having experience as a manga assistant. However, his personality flips when it comes to Shun; he becomes a fanatical fan (a perverted stalker type) who follows him around and even decorates his house with life-sized panels of him. Shun Kurosawa: Shun-kun
Full name: Mariko Ohigashi. The editor in charge of the protagonist, high school manga artist Nono Nonohara. Role: An editor for the magazine where Nono is serialized. She is a reliable figure who supports Nono with a mix of strictness and warmth. Personality: A huge fan of handsome men. She is a bit airheaded and often inconveniences Nono by giving her the wrong deadlines for her shojo manga. Relationship Advisor: She sometimes gives Nono romantic advice. Frustrated by the lack of progress between Nono and Kurosawa-kun, she once gave some "adult" advice, saying, "It's unbelievable that you've kissed but aren't dating yet."
The twin sister of the main character Shun Kurosawa and an active idol in the entertainment industry. She is also a huge fan of the protagonist, Nono Nonohara (Nono-chan). She loves Nono-chan and absolutely dotes on her. A Maiden in Love: While she mostly seems devoted only to Nono-chan, she actually harbors romantic feelings for Hakuba-kun. Bad at Cooking: Although she is often introduced and promoted as a "great cook" to those around her, she is actually terrible at cooking.
