The founder of Shinshinkai Karate, known by nicknames such as the 'God of War' and 'Man-Eater Orochi.' He once killed a Siberian tiger with his bare hands. He suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of Yujiro Hanma while caught off guard in a bar and vowed revenge. Later, through his connection with Yujiro's son Baki, he fought a rematch in the Underground Arena. He briefly gained the upper hand using various secret karate techniques, but was defeated by Yujiro's superhuman combat ability when he got serious. He lost sight in his right eye and his heart was stopped. He was subsequently resuscitated by Kureha Shinogi. During his fight with Dorian, his left hand was severed by an aramid fiber wire Dorian had hidden. However, he showed his grit by striking Dorian with the severed stump without flinching. After the match, he went straight to the clinic of an underground doctor, Umezawa, and had his left hand successfully reattached. He taught the essence of karate to Katsumi and Kato, who had abandoned the spirit of karate, by cutting Dorian's tough aramid fiber wire with a knife-hand strike. Later, Kato was seriously injured in a fight with Dorian. In response, Doppo and Katsumi mobilized the entire Shinshinkai to hunt Dorian down. He crushed all of Dorian's attacks, including hypnosis, and let Kato deliver the final blow. However, upon returning home, he was enraged to find Dorian had ambushed his house; he suffered severe injuries when his face was blown up in a surprise attack. He eventually defeated Dorian. He wears an eyepatch over his right eye.
