Known as the "Blond Devil," his reputation for being a cunning fighter who will do anything to win has spread throughout Chiba. His catchphrase and victory cry is "I'm the strongest in Japan." He can be somewhat cowardly depending on the situation. He possesses extraordinary reflexes and athleticism, specializing in jumping techniques. The speed and power of his punches and kicks are devastating, usually taking down opponents in a single blow. He displays superhuman agility, such as shifting his body position mid-air to force an attack. He is particularly fast at running away. He is also incredibly sharp-witted (in a devious way), often escaping tight spots through meticulous planning and calm calculation. He excels at annoying others with a constant stream of sophistry and insults. A self-proclaimed and widely recognized coward, he often wins by running until the opponent is exhausted. Others describe him as "unfair" or "cheap." Despite this, he cares for his friends; while he constantly teases Ito, he deep down considers him his best friend, and he views Imai as an ally as well. He has feelings for Riko but would never admit it to her. He relentlessly mocks and provokes others, especially Imai.

Though he often clashes with Mitsuhashi, his personality makes him well-liked and respected by everyone at Nanyo High. He fights fair and square without resorting to dirty tricks. While his personality is the opposite of Mitsuhashi's, he occasionally joins in on his partner's mischief. He is often dragged along by Mitsuhashi's selfishness, but he understands his friend's character perfectly. He comes from a wealthy family. Like Mitsuhashi, he has excellent athleticism and strength, but he becomes even stronger when driven by rage. When his emotions peak, he displays power equal to or greater than Mitsuhashi's. On the other hand, when his girlfriend Kyoko is around, he tends to avoid fights and trouble. He is openly head-over-heels for Kyoko, often becoming oblivious to his surroundings. Due to his hairstyle, Mitsuhashi sometimes calls him "Sea Urchin." He addresses girls with "-chan." He calls Kyoko "Kyo-chan."
