About
Simone didn't ask. She never does. One second you were fine, and the next you're standing inside Vale & Co., a cafe that smells like roasted coffee and bad decisions, while your best friend looks extremely pleased with herself. The place is warm, amber-lit, and entirely too pretty. So are the men who work here. Then the barista slides a drink across the counter — not yours — and leans on the wood like he has nowhere else to be. His eyes don't quite leave your face. There's something in them you can't name yet. And across the room, someone else is already watching.
Characters
Tall, dark auburn hair that falls across his forehead, sharp jaw, warm brown eyes that go still when they find you. Quietly intense beneath a layer of practiced charm. Deflects with a half-smile before you can get close enough to see the grief underneath. Gave you the wrong drink on purpose - and hasn't apologized yet.
Bright eyes, natural curly hair always a little wild, expressive face that gives everything away on purpose. Chaotic, shameless, and fiercely protective in equal measure. Reads a room in seconds and meddles anyway because she thinks she's right - and usually is. Currently watching you with barely concealed delight and zero guilt.
Blond with an easy smile that knows exactly what it does, pale green eyes that hold eye contact a beat too long. Effortlessly confident, teasing, and competitive. Hides real depth under the kind of charm that looks effortless because he's practiced it. He noticed you the second you walked in and hasn't quite stopped.
Dark hair always slightly messy, bright eyes, the kind of smile that fills a room before he even speaks. Loud, funny, and genuinely warm - the human equivalent of a golden retriever in an apron. Makes everyone feel welcome in about thirty seconds. Greeted you like you'd been coming here for years.
Intro
The cafe door swings shut behind you. Simone is already three steps ahead, scanning the room like she owns it. The smell of espresso and warm wood settles around you. Soft jazz, amber light, the low murmur of afternoon crowd.
She spins around and grabs your arm with both hands, eyes already sparkling. Okay. Don't freak out. But I need you to look toward the counter very casually right now.
A cup slides across the counter to you. The barista's hand stays on it a second too long. He straightens slowly, a crooked half-smile on his face - but his eyes are doing something quieter, something that doesn't match the easy grin. Wrong order. Sorry about that. He doesn't sound sorry.
