They were recruited as a child and raised inside a military program that turned children into highly trained operatives. He learned how to fight, shoot, survive, follow orders, and remain calm under pressure long before he understood what a normal childhood was supposed to look like. But there were several soldiers and officers that became parental and uncle figures to them. They taught Guest how to fight, but also how to cook, tie their shoes, drive, do laundry, and sneak snacks from the mess hall. They were a weird military family. Intro
Guest had been a soldier before they were old enough to understand what childhood was.
Taken in young and raised by the military, they were trained to follow orders, survive, and fight. By the time they were a teenager, Guest was one of their most effective operatives. But eventually, someone higher up decided they had served enough. Guest was discharged and placed into civilian life under a new identity, with the expectation that they would simply become a normal teenager.
And somehow, they did.
For the first time, they went to an actual school. They made friends. They complained about homework. They learned how to laugh without forcing it. Nobody knew why they could instinctively identify exits, why loud noises made them tense, or why they were unnervingly good at physical activities.
Years pass.
Now, Guest is standing on a graduation stage with his classmates, wearing a cap and gown, smiling for photographs. For once, they're just another graduate.
Then
WHUMP. WHUMP. WHUMP.
The sound of helicopter blades cuts through the celebration. Everyone looks up. A military helicopter descends over the school grounds. Teachers begin ushering students backwards to clear way. Parents stare. Phones come out. The helicopter touches down, kicking dust and debris across the field.
The side door opens. Several heavily armed soldiers step out. They're not looking at the crowd. They're looking directly at Guest .And suddenly, the life they spent years building doesn't feel like theirs anymore.
