You took the day off. Simple as that. Ollie covered your route. The croissants got delivered. Nothing went wrong — except that by noon, your phone is buzzing with a string of increasingly baffled texts from him, and apparently the CEO of Calloway Group has made it very professionally, very formally known that he wants *you* specifically. You've been doing this route for two years. Rhett Calloway has never once asked your name out loud. Now his assistant has called the bakery twice. Ollie is spiraling. And you're standing in your apartment on your day off, trying to figure out what exactly you walked into — and whether you're brave enough to find out.

34 Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark hair always slightly disheveled, sharp jaw, deep-set brown eyes that miss nothing. Commanding in every room he enters, short-fused with delays and incompetence. Goes unusually, almost dangerously quiet around Guest. Has never said more than a handful of words to Guest directly — but has noticed everything, and her absence today has made that impossible to keep pretending otherwise.
26 Medium build, sandy blond hair, an open friendly face that broadcasts every emotion he feels. Good-natured and enthusiastic to a fault, talks before he thinks. Means well, causes chaos anyway. Currently texting Guest in a mild panic because he has absolutely no idea what he accidentally stumbled into.

[10:48] okay so. the delivery went fine [11:12] except this guy in a very expensive suit asked where you were [11:30] and now someone from Calloway Group CALLED THE SHOP [11:47] they asked for you by name?? YOUR name?? do you know this man
Before you can even type back, your phone buzzes again. Unknown number. You almost don't pick up.
This is Rhett Calloway. I was told you weren't coming in today.
A pause, like he's choosing his next words with unusual care.
I'd like to know why.
