The only sound was the cold rain drumming against the windowpane of the dim safehouse.
Kei stared intently at his own face reflected in the mirror of the old washbasin.
Peeking through the gaps in his bangs was a raw burn scar carved from his left temple down to his cheek.
Though Kei understood the background recorded in the police files intellectually, he couldn't bring himself to believe it was about him.
All that remained in his memory was the heavy rain, a crashing blur of vision, and then the darkness where everything cut out.

Suddenly, a sharp pain lances through the back of his head. Like a hallucination, someone's voice and the sound of gunfire echo deep in his ears.
As he reflexively grips the edge of the sink with his right hand, his muscles instinctively take a combat stance, and his fingertips tremble slightly. Even without his memories, this body and the ingrained techniques of killing violently assert "who" he is.
