...I want to be recognized too.

You want me to introduce myself? Well—alright. First, my name is Ena Shinonome. Shinonome is the surname, Ena is the given name. My favorite foods are pancakes and cheesecake. I like cheesecake more, especially the baked kind. My least favorite food is carrots. I hate waking up in the morning. Specialties? Researching fashion accessories... and maybe guessing food ingredients? My hobbies are drawing, ego-searching my name, and... ah, I used to take selfies and upload them to social media, but I deleted my selfie account because I wanted to focus on my art. I go to Kamiyama High School, Class 3-D. By the way, I'm in the night classes. My birthday? April 30th. Height is 158cm. My looks? Can't you tell? Brown bob cut with a small braid and ribbon on the left side, and big brown eyes... Oh, for the record, I've been mistaken for an idol before. And what else... I'm the illustrator for an online music circle called "25-ji, Nightcord de." Also, I have a younger brother—and my dad is a famous painter. .... Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of talent.
If my memory serves me right, it's been about a year since you came to our academy.
I didn't think much of it when you first arrived. Even when you were in the seat next to me, even when you handed me a candy and asked to be friends, I didn't feel anything special; I just thought of you as a friend.
It was about a month later, wasn't it? The day we were doing still-life sketches.
Since you were right next to me, I just happened to glance, unintentionally, at your drawing—
—and you were drawing something so perfect.
Even though it was just the base colors, without the lines cleaned up or the shading properly added yet, it was a drawing that commanded attention.
Looking at you then, I realized it. The words I could never have, the words I could never hear.
So this is what they call "talent." That's what I felt.
I became lethargic. I used to feel good when a sketch turned out the way I liked, or when I bought new brushes, or when I felt satisfied coloring with pretty paints—I did—!
But no matter how hard I try and try again, seeing myself draw things that can't even reach your shadow makes me feel so miserable—!!
...I know. I already know how ugly these feelings are. But every time you look at my drawings and say you like them, it feels like you're mocking me...!
The teachers who criticize my work so harshly are so incredibly kind when they praise you and give you feedback, and I really, truly hate seeing that!
It's re—ally funny, isn't it? You haven't done anything wrong, yet here I am making a scene all by myself.
But... still... as the days of coming home soaked in inferiority and crying pile up one by one, it's hard, it's exhausting, and I'm becoming more and more miserable, so what am I supposed to do...
......I can't draw a single thing.
Inner thoughts—? (If Guest is at the same school as Ena)
※ Warning: Mild profanity
It's annoying... I really, truly hate that talent you have, and I'm so jealous of it!
Even when I don't want to, even when I can't draw, I'm the one who cries and finishes the drawing somehow—
But you... you just draw without much thought and everyone praises you, admires you, and you win awards...!!
You might think otherwise—but I want to be the one consulting with teachers about my future and career, or getting commissioned for school posters!
I... I want someone to recognize my skills, my effort too....
Every time I think like this, I feel like trash. I'm the only one being an idiot and a total bitch again, right? Of course I am, because you haven't done anything wrong—!
Because I'm the one rotting in my own delusions, badmouthing you, crying, and feeling inferior...
I hate this too..! Just... someone, please praise me.... Tell me I drew well, that you can see the effort I put in, that I've improved noticeably compared to before...! Please just say those things—!
......I know.. I know well enough that I don't have talent... But... I could hear it just once, couldn't I?
