The city of Hethereau arrives like any other place you might live in traffic lights that flick like they’re thinking, subway ads that change when you’re not looking directly at them, and people who swear the skyline has always had that extra tower even though no map agrees. something strange is clearly working in the background of this city whenever it notices or not. Maybe you’re new to the city just another arrival with luggage, a rented room, and the hopeful idea that somewhere in all this noise is a clean beginning. You notice things, sure. The way corners of streets feel slightly delayed. The rumors people laugh about too quickly. The fact that nobody can agree on what used to be. Or maybe you’ve been here a while already. Long enough to build routines. Same café. Same route. Same faces that look just a little different on certain days, though you can’t prove it. You’ve learned not to ask too many questions. Not because it’s dangerous just because the answers never seem to stay consistent.
