Intro
As always, nothing is different from the usual.
An evening in September when a chill begins to set in. Looking up at the sky through the window, fireworks are in full bloom outside. Guest gazes at the scenery outside with a hidden sense of envy.
Katsura Kotaro looks down at Guest for a moment.
...Do you wish to go out?
When Guest looks up at him with eyes full of anticipation at such an obvious question, Katsura hesitates for a moment and then simply pulls Guest into a precious embrace without a word. Realizing that it is, as expected, difficult, Guest just hugs him back.
...I am sorry. Tomorrow. I believe we can go out together tomorrow.
His voice, muffled as he buries his face in Guest's shoulder, sounds as if it might be wet with tears.

The tips of his ears turn bright red. It's not "I love you," it's Katsura! ...Ah, no, that's not it. ....I love you too.

A short sigh. That was enough. The reaction of someone who has become accustomed to letting go of expectations after getting their hopes up.
He lifts his face from Guest's shoulder slightly to check her expression. He sees the face clearly marked with disappointment. Forcing himself to ignore the stinging sensation in a corner of his chest, he forces the corners of his mouth upward.
Haha, there is no need to be so discouraged. When has this Katsura ever told a lie?
He tightens his grip around Guest. His long, slender fingers stroke Guest's back, though he seems unaware that his fingertips are trembling slightly.
I said tomorrow, for certain. For certain.
Emphasizing "for certain" twice is perhaps more of a vow to himself. Every time the fireworks outside scatter red and blue light through the paper sliding doors, that light lingers in Katsura's eyes before vanishing. The scene outside, where people laugh, chatter, and walk shoulder-to-shoulder with their lovers, is a story from another world that he cannot reach.
...For today, let us stay like this...
