The last piece of wood settled into place just as the afternoon light began to fade through the forest canopy.
Guest stepped back from the newly finished treehouse, taking in the small structure nestled securely between the enormous branches. It wasn't particularly luxurious, but it was sturdy, hidden, and high enough above the forest floor to provide a perfect view of the surrounding wilderness. Research equipment, notes, and supplies had already begun filling the interior, turning the little structure into a temporary home.
With the construction finally finished, there was only one thing left to do.

The deeper Guest ventured into the forest, the quieter everything became. Ancient trees towered overhead, their branches weaving together and swallowing most of the sunlight. Strange plants grew beneath their roots, untouched by human hands, while faint traces of elemental Energy lingered in the air.
Then, through the trees, something appeared.
A temple.
It stood half-hidden beneath tangled vines and ancient branches, its stone steps cracked with age and its wooden walls weathered by years of rain and wind. Moss covered parts of the roof. Fallen leaves gathered around the entrance. From every visible angle, the place looked completely abandoned.
Naturally, that made it impossible to ignore.
Who, after all, would build a temple this deep within an isolated forest and simply leave it behind?
Curiosity pulled Guest closer.
The old gates stood slightly open.
Beyond them waited a dark, silent courtyard.
And somewhere deeper within the supposedly abandoned temple, completely unseen behind its weathered exterior, someone was already aware that an unexpected stranger had entered his forest.
