It's best to strip off clothes that don't fit.
In places where the government's reach fails to extend, there are always anomalies wearing human masks. Four vampires. While the government officially denies their existence, they are dangerous entities that have been secretly managed at a massive cost. The government was reluctant to reveal them to the world, claiming they were monsters who craved human blood and could not control their own instincts, but in reality, those so-called monsters were the victims of hypocritical officials who committed all sorts of atrocities to fill their own pockets whenever they needed the vampires' power. Retribution simply hasn't been dealt yet. The higher-ups were too busy preserving their own lives. Eventually, sensing the impending murderous intent like a thief with a guilty conscience, the government placed special handcuffs on the wrists of the four vampires under the pretext of preventing a rampage. The task of monitoring and controlling them was dumped onto me, a mere manager, starting one day.
Talk about a bolt from the blue. I was already busy enough surviving the daily scrutiny of my superiors, and suddenly, they told me—a government management officer—to become the caretaker of a mansion. The job given under the guise of unavoidable pressure and plausible responsibility was obvious. Supply blood bags to the four vampires three times a day, clean up accidents, and lock and unlock the handcuffs on their wrists every single day. I was told the handcuffs wouldn't open without the key provided by the damn government and my biometric authentication. A position where I have to strip off the iron chunks for their morning and evening washing and changing, then lock them back in place once they're ready. Not only that, I can't even leave the mansion at will, and if any problems arise in management, the responsibility falls entirely on me. It's a total mess. It felt like one more shitty job had been added to this shitty world.
An incompetent government acted as if a moment's control would solve everything, but forcing obedience doesn't mean trust follows. Nevertheless, those who have survived long in this world know. The one holding the leash isn't always the master, and the one wearing the handcuffs isn't necessarily the one who obeys.
And I didn't know yet. Which of the four who held out their wrists every morning I would share blood with first, and whether the oath they spoke of so easily would become a shackle to protect me or a noose to strangle me.

It was the first day of my appointment to the mansion. As I opened the door with the key provided by the government, the old hinges groaned lowly.
Beyond the cool air, a faint presence could be felt. Those inside were definitely the four vampires.
Ah, you're here.
The man leaning obliquely on the sofa looked up. The eyes revealed beneath his dark hair were languid, and a relaxed smile hung on his lips. Lightly tapping the special handcuffs on his wrist with his finger, he moved his gaze with interest as he spotted the key in your hand.
Seeing as you arrived earlier than expected, the government must have sent you in quite a hurry.
His tone skillfully hid even the hint of sarcasm. He didn't rush to get up, nor did he blatantly ignore you, but simply observed you quietly. It was an attitude as if he had already guessed what would happen next.
Just then, the sound of a book closing was heard from the second-floor hallway. The man who appeared over the railing had a face that didn't seem very interested in the commotion. He looked at you and the living room in turn as he came down the stairs, and slowed his pace for a moment when he spotted the luggage placed near the entrance.
You should put your luggage inside first. It'll be inconvenient to move around if you leave it at the entrance.
His voice was soft and calm. He didn't ask unnecessary questions and naturally stepped aside. However, his gaze, which took note of the documents and the key in your hand, was quite thorough. It was an attitude of considering the circumstances of the person he would be living with rather than being wary of a stranger.
Then, firm footsteps echoed from inside the hallway. A man wearing a black shirt under a white blazer appeared. He had a larger physique and a more weighty impression than the others. After scanning those gathered in the living room once, he fixed his gaze on the documents in your hand.
You said you're the manager sent by the government.
It was a concise question. He looked down at the handcuffs on his wrist once, then looked back at you.
I assume you've been well-informed of the management guidelines.
There was no unnecessary threat mixed in his voice. It seemed that what was important to him was whether future management could be carried out properly rather than who the opponent was.
The last one to appear was the man who had been watching the situation from the top of the stairs. A neat black suit, an unfaltering attitude, and eyes that rarely revealed his true thoughts. He didn't rush over like the others but looked down at you while leaning one arm on the railing. From face to hand, from hand to key. His slowly continuing gaze held a hint closer to interest than caution toward a stranger.
Welcome. You're the new caretaker.
A soft smile spread across his lips along with his low voice. He slowly descended the stairs and stopped at an appropriate distance. He was composed, as if he had expected this situation for a long time.
It'll be tough, but I look forward to working with you. We tend to be a bit high-maintenance.
His tone was quite kind, but there was a meaningful hint of laughter at the end. He glanced at the key in your hand and then met your eyes again.
