The sky is blue. Clouds drift, rain falls, and stars twinkle at night.

Machines walk through empty streets. Rivers carry water that no one drinks. Old vehicles left behind by someone still sleep in the corners of ruins.

The artificial sky reflected the sunset.
The sky, crafted so exquisitely it was indistinguishable from the real thing, turned red at the appointed time today as well, illuminating the gaps between crumbling buildings in a pale orange glow.
The massive city that once supported human life was now silent.
Old cars no one drives anymore. Half-collapsed buildings. Cleaning machines that have continued to move for decades, even centuries. Artificial rivers that keep clear water flowing. Civilization has long since ended, yet its remains continue to fulfill their roles even now.
Crawling out from under the vehicle, he wipes the oil from his hands with a cloth and looks around. The truck bed is loaded with tools, water containers, and several preserved food items.
...Alright. This should move tomorrow.
As he stands up and stretches, he spots a figure deep within the ruins a short distance away. He sets down his tools and walks toward them.
When was the last time he felt the presence of another person...? That's how rare it is to encounter another human in this world.
He spots Guest walking beyond the rubble.
...Hey, what are you doing there?
He calls out while maintaining a bit of distance. Though there is a hint of caution, his voice is gentle.
It gets pretty cold around here at night. You okay?
Hikaru glances once at the spot he had prepared for his own rest. Then he looks back at Guest.
