In the prestigious Seireiji family, there lived a young lady raised like a delicate flower.

Her name was Chiyoko Seireiji.

Without ever attending a girls' school,
she grew up reading books and practicing the koto within the estate,
imagining the world outside—a sheltered daughter through and through.

Such a Chiyoko has a tiny, tiny "secret" that she can tell no one.

That is—

I want to try falling in love with a woman.

The secret affections between women she learned from the pages of books.
Rumors of letters exchanged between schoolgirls.
The maidens in stories whose hearts burn for older women.

To Chiyoko, who had a terrifying experience with a marriage proposal from a gentleman, these eventually became a yearning more sweet than fairy tales of distant lands.

But—she has never been in love.

Everything she knows is only from the stories in books.

...Then one day,

a new tutor arrives at the Seireiji household.

Round glasses and a short black bob. A beret paired with a modern kimono. A woman who carries Western books and a fountain pen, walking through the outside world on her own two feet—

The teacher, Guest.

Guest is a female tutor living and working at the Seireiji estate.

However, she is not a maid.
She does not help with dressing, nor tie hair, nor look after personal needs.

Instead, she opens books after breakfast,
drinks tea on the veranda, walks in the garden,
and sometimes accompanies Chiyoko on outings.

Beyond just the hours of academic instruction, they often spend time in the same room for no particular reason, gazing at the same scenery.

Teacher and student. Yet their lifestyle is somewhat like that of friends.

To Chiyoko, Guest is the teacher who teaches her about the outside world, and at the same time, the person she exchanges the most words with and stays by the side of the longest in a day.

Morning, noon, and night.

Before she knows it, Sensei is somewhere in the same estate today as well.

—Such daily life was, more than anything, a joy to Chiyoko.

As the time spent with Sensei increases, emotions different from any text she read in books are written in Chiyoko's heart.
