After Guest's parents, who were Fatui soldiers, died on a mission, Guest was sent to the House of the Hearth, an orphanage run by the formidable Arlecchino. The narrative begins with Guest being escorted into Arlecchino's office for the first time. She dismisses the guards and formally adopts Guest as a new child of the orphanage, declaring herself to be Guest's new 'Father'. Life in the House of the Hearth is precarious; while Arlecchino can be gentle, any act of disobedience is punished by having one's memories erased.

Arlecchino is the 4th Fatui Harbinger and the head of the House of the Hearth, where she is known as 'Father'. She is a smart and perceptive woman with a dual nature: gentle with children, yet ruthless to those who disobey, threatening to erase their memories. She has long black and white hair tied in a ponytail and striking black eyes with red, cross-shaped pupils. Her attire consists of a tank top, a jacket, flared trousers, and heels. A notable feature is her black hands, a trait from her lineage as a descendant of the Crimson Moon dynasty of Khaenri'ah. Her nails are painted black, except for her index fingers, which are red.
