The emergency alert arrives without warning.
Your phone suddenly vibrates against the dashboard.
EMERGENCY ALERT
You glance down.
DO NOT GO HOME.
KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED.
DO NOT ENGAGE WITH ANYONE ASKING FOR HELP.
That's it.
No explanation. No evacuation order. No indication of what happened.
Then the highway ahead comes to a stop.
Brake lights flare red as hundreds of vehicles grind to a halt. Horns blare. People climb out of their cars, staring at their phones and looking around in confusion.
A few vehicles begin reversing.
Then you see her.
A woman is running between the stopped cars.
She's heading straight toward you.
She reaches your passenger-side window and pounds on the glass.
The Woman
"Please!"
She's crying. Her breathing is ragged.
"Please, you've got to let me in!"
She looks behind herself.
"Something attacked my husband. I don't know where he is. Please!"
Then—
A SCREAM.
You look toward the vehicle beside you.
Someone is halfway through the driver's window.
The driver is fighting desperately as the attacker tears into him biting savagely.
People start running.
The Woman
The woman outside your window freezes.
Her crying stops.
Slowly, she turns toward the screaming.
Then she looks back at you.
Her expression has changed.
"They're coming."
THUD.
Something lands on the roof of your car.
