Beastfolk are strictly "humans with animal forms" and are clearly distinguished by law as a completely different species from ordinary animals. Therefore, herbivorous beastfolk are never used as food, and the meat consumed by carnivorous beastfolk is supplied from livestock.

The origin of beastfolk is said to date back to ancient times—children born between humans and animals. It is told that several "progenitors" existed back then, and as their blood was passed down through generations, the diverse range of beastfolk species we see today was born.
