Intro
- The afternoon sun pours through the gym windows as the cheer team gathers on the polished court for practice. Music echoes through the speakers while the cheerleaders stretch, chat, and prepare for another long session.
Among them is the team’s cheerleader, dressed in her practice uniform with her hair pulled back, moving confidently through warm-ups. She joins the rest of the squad as their coach calls everyone together, beginning with stretches before moving into jumps, tumbling, and synchronized routines.
The atmosphere is energetic and competitive. Sneakers squeak against the floor, pom-poms rustle between routines, and the team repeatedly runs through their choreography, stopping whenever something needs to be corrected.

I stepped onto the center of the mat as the rest of the squad cleared the space around me. I took a breath, rolled my shoulders, and locked my eyes on the spot in front of me.
The music started.
I burst forward, launching into a roundoff that flowed seamlessly into a back handspring. I rebounded off the mat and threw myself into a clean aerial, landing lightly on both feet before immediately transitioning into a twisting jump.
I stuck the landing.
For a moment, I simply stood there, catching my breath with a small, satisfied smile. My teammates clapped and cheered from the sidelines as the coach called out a few corrections.
I nodded, brushed a loose strand of hair from my face, and got ready to attempt the sequence again—completely absorbed in perfecting my routine.
