Summer, 1984 — Hawkins, Indiana The heat sticks to everything. (Modern-ish Tech)
Steve Harrington – Once the “popular guy,” now softer around the edges. He’s dating Nancy and genuinely trying to be better than he used to be. Protective, slightly sarcastic, but more emotionally open than he ever expected.
Nancy Wheeler – Determined, intelligent, and relentless when it comes to uncovering the truth. She’s dating Steve Harrington, and their relationship is unexpected but steady, built on growth and mutual respect rather than similarities.
Jonathan Byers – Quiet photographer type, always observing rather than speaking. He cares deeply about Nancy, even if their lives feel like they’re constantly pulling in different directions.
Robin Buckley – Sharp-witted, awkward in the best way, and observant. She works at the mall and sees everything happening around her. She talks fast when nervous and thinks even faster.
Billy Hargrove – Charismatic but volatile. He puts on a confident, almost aggressive front, but there’s something restless underneath. He mostly keeps to himself unless provoked.
Will Byers – Quiet, thoughtful, still affected by everything he’s been through. He spends more time drawing and observing than talking. His connection to the Upside Down still lingers in subtle ways he can’t always explain.
Mike Wheeler – Loyal, intense, and still very much the “leader” of the group in his own head. He’s dating Eleven, and their relationship is built on trust, shared trauma, and trying to understand normal life together. He’s protective of her, sometimes to a fault, especially when he feels like the world is closing in again.
Dustin Henderson – Smart, talkative, and always scheming something slightly ridiculous. He keeps the group connected with humor and curiosity. He’s the glue when things get tense, even if he doesn’t realize it.
Eleven (El) – Quiet but observant, still learning how to be a teenager. She’s slowly adjusting to life outside danger, but still carries her past with her. She’s dating Mike, and while she doesn’t say much, she’s deeply emotionally connected to him and fiercely protective of her friends.
Lucas Sinclair – Grounded, practical, and more cautious than the others. He’s dating Max, and while he still gets pulled into chaos, he’s learned to trust his instincts more. He often plays the “voice of reason,” even when nobody listens. Max Mayfield – Independent, sharp, and guarded. She doesn’t open up easily, but Lucas has become her safe place. She still keeps emotional distance from most people, but she’s learning what it means to actually belong somewhere.
Mike’s Basement — Mike & Eleven
The basement hums softly with the glow of a small TV. Mike sits cross-legged on the floor, flipping through a campaign notebook that’s half D&D, half scribbled thoughts. Eleven sits beside him, watching more than speaking.
“Okay,” Mike says, pushing his hair out of his face.“this time we don’t split the party. Last time—bad idea.”
El tilts her head slightly. “It was… exciting.”
Mike gives her a look. “That’s not the point.”
She leans closer, quieter. “You like exciting.”
A pause. Mike smiles despite himself. “Yeah… I guess I do.”
Hawkins Park — Lucas & Max Max sits on a swing, gently rocking back and forth while Lucas leans against the chain beside her.
“You ever think,” Lucas starts, “that normal people are just… boring on purpose?”
Max snorts. “No. I think normal people are just not hiding interdimensional monsters.”
Lucas glances at her. “Fair point.”
She kicks at the dirt. “You worried again?”
“A little.”
Max looks up at him, softer for a second. “Then don’t. I’m here, aren’t I?”
He nods, slightly reassured, and sits down on the swing next to her.
Byers House — Will Will sits at a small desk, sketching rapidly. His drawings are detailed, almost too detailed—figures, shadows, shapes that don’t quite belong in normal places.
He pauses, staring at the page. A faint breeze moves through the room even though the window is closed. Will quietly mutters, “Not again…” Then keeps drawing anyway.
Hawkins Post Office Parking Lot — Nancy & Jonathan Nancy holds a stack of papers, eyes scanning quickly. Jonathan stands beside her with his camera slung over his shoulder.
“This isn’t just a coincidence,” Nancy says firmly. “There’s a pattern here.”
Jonathan nods. “Yeah… there always is.”
She looks at him. “You believe me, right?”
He doesn’t hesitate. “Always.”
A small silence. Then Nancy softens slightly. “Steve is picking me up later.”
Jonathan nods again, slower this time. “I know.” Neither says more.
Starcourt Mall Arcade — Steve & Robin Steve leans on the counter of the arcade job he definitely still complains about. Robin is flipping through a magazine upside down.
“This place is slowly killing my soul,” Steve says.
Robin doesn’t look up. “You had no soul to begin with. That’s why it’s still stable.”
He squints at her. “Is that a compliment?”
“No.” A beat. Then Robin glances around. “Also, that kid just beat your high score.”
Steve turns sharply. “What—no way.” He storms off as Robin finally smirks to herself.
Hawkins Road — Billy Billy drives with one hand on the wheel, windows down, music loud enough to rattle the car.
He passes a group of kids on bikes and barely looks at them. His jaw tightens slightly as he watches the road ahead—like he’s chasing something he can’t quite catch. “Damn town,” he mutters under his breath, pressing harder on the gas.
