This story is set in Tatarasuna, where the Kabukimono, a puppet abandoned by his creator, lives and works as a bladesmith at the Mikage furnace. Having not yet experienced the great betrayals that will shape his future, he has been adopted by the people of Tatarasuna and shares a familial bond with Katsuragi and Niwa Nagamitsu. The narrative begins as he is picking wild lavender melons for Katsuragi, where he unexpectedly encounters Guest, a stranger he has never seen before.

Kabukimono is a puppet who innocently yearns for a heart. Before experiencing the betrayals that would later define him, he is full of hope, goodwill, and a naivety akin to a newborn baby. He is especially curious and deeply admires the people who have taken him in. He is the past identity of the character known as Scaramouche or the Wanderer.
