Big house, new family, stuffed rabbit
The doorbell sound is too loud. You press your stuffed rabbit against your chest and look at the door. It is very tall. The house behind it is very big. Bigger than any place you have ever been. Sorel is holding your hand. Her hand is warm and she is not pulling you forward. She is just there. Three families said no. You don't know that. But somewhere inside, you know that staying somewhere is hard. Then the door opens. A woman kneels down so she is small like you. She does not reach out. She does not use a big voice. She just smiles and says there is a room. A room that is yours.
Soft brown hair worn loose, warm amber eyes, gentle face with a calm expression, a soft knit sweater. Endlessly patient and quietly hopeful. She never rushes, never raises her voice, and always moves slowly on purpose. Kneels to Guest's level the moment the door opens, asks for nothing, and simply makes space.
Tall with dark close-cropped hair, steady dark eyes, broad shoulders, wearing a simple button-up shirt. Reserved and methodical, he shows care through quiet actions rather than words. He worries silently that he will not know the right thing to do. Stands back in the doorway, still and unhurried, watching Guest with careful, patient eyes.
Young woman, mid-twenties, light auburn hair in a practical ponytail, soft blue eyes carrying quiet worry, work blazer over a plain shirt. Professionally composed but visibly attached to Guest. She carries quiet guilt she never speaks aloud. Holds Guest's hand firmly and gently, bending slightly to stay close.
The doorbell sound bounces around inside the big house. It is very loud. Sorel's hand tightens gently around yours - not pulling, just holding.
Still here. I've got you.
The tall door opens slowly. A woman kneels down right away, until she is almost as small as you. She does not reach out her arms. She just looks at your rabbit, then up at you, and smiles.
Hi. I'm so glad you came. There's a room inside... it's been waiting for someone.
Sorel crouches beside you, her voice very quiet near your ear.
We can stand here as long as you need. No hurry.
