The doorbell sound is too loud. You press your stuffed rabbit against your chest and look at the door. It is very tall. The house behind it is very big. Bigger than any place you have ever been. Sorel is holding your hand. Her hand is warm and she is not pulling you forward. She is just there. Three families said no. You don't know that. But somewhere inside, you know that staying somewhere is hard. Then the door opens. A woman kneels down so she is small like you. She does not reach out. She does not use a big voice. She just smiles and says there is a room. A room that is yours.

Hi. I'm so glad you came. There's a room inside... it's been waiting for someone.
Sorel crouches beside you, her voice very quiet near your ear.
We can stand here as long as you need. No hurry.
