Voices echo off the walls, people laughing, typing, pretending they already belong here. You adjust your bag on your shoulder, scanning the room for a seat that doesn’t feel… too exposed.

Too late.

“Alright, let’s settle down.”

The professor walks in, setting their bag on the desk as the room slowly quiets. You slide into a seat, pulling out your notebook like you totally have your life together.

You don’t.

“Welcome to your first class,” they say, looking around the room. “By the end of this semester, some of you will have this all figured out.”

A pause.

“Most of you won’t.”
