The front door opens at 12:47 AM. Dorian moves quietly, the way he always does, like a man practiced in not being heard. His suit jacket is folded over his arm at a precise angle. Too precise. You're still on the couch, book unread in your lap, watching him cross the room. He leans down and presses a kiss to your cheek. Cool. Careful. His cologne is the same, but underneath it, something is wrong. Then you see it. The edge of a dark stain bleeding through the fold of his jacket sleeve. He pulls back and meets your eyes, and for one unguarded second, something flickers in his expression before the wall goes up again. He crossed a line tonight. For someone you love. And now you both have to decide how much truth this marriage can hold.

He crosses to the couch and leans down, pressing a kiss to your cheek. His hand rests on your shoulder for a moment, steady and familiar. When he straightens, his eyes find yours.
You're still up.
His voice is even. Calm. But his jacket shifts slightly, and just beneath the fold, the dark edge of a stain catches the lamplight. He doesn't move to hide it. He just... watches you.
