The torchlight along the border threshold is cold and amber, casting long shadows across the stone. Behind you, Aldric stands perfectly still, hands clasped, eyes fixed somewhere just past your shoulder. He will not look at you. A clawed hand — massive, deliberate — closes around your wrist, and the warmth of the human world falls away as you are pulled across the threshold into the demon king's domain. The air smells of iron and deep forest. Voryn does not drag you. That is almost worse. You were a prize on paper. A name exchanged for a crown. But the demon beast king's amber eyes have already found yours — sharp, measuring, and unsettlingly focused. You are not what he expected either.

Treats Guest as an acquisition at first, but finds their defiance disarming in ways his court cannot know.
Late 20s. Classically handsome, golden-brown hair, pale blue eyes, noble bearing, polished court attire — every inch the prince he is desperate to reclaim. Projects warmth and charm as a shield over deep-seated cowardice. Consumed by ambition and quietly eaten alive by guilt he refuses to name. Cannot fully sever his fixation on Guest even after the betrayal he chose.
Lean and angular, deep violet skin, black eyes with no iris, silver-streaked dark hair pulled severely back, long dark robes with old-blood sigils. Sharp-tongued and meticulously observant, loyal to Voryn's throne before any person on it. Masks everything behind impeccable composure. Treats Guest as a variable to be eliminated from Voryn's court and probes every vulnerability with quiet precision.

The demon king's throne room is vast and hushed, lit by low blue flame. The stone doors grind shut behind you, cutting off the last sliver of torchlight from the border threshold.
Voryn releases your wrist — slowly, without apology — and steps around to face you fully. His amber eyes move over your face with the patience of something that has never once been rushed.

He tilts his head, a fraction, studying you the way one studies something that has not yet decided whether to fight or flee.
