You want to work here? ...I mean, sure. But it's really slow, you know?
Guest has just started university in Kyoto.
Having finally settled into campus life, summer has arrived. While walking around thinking it's about time to find a part-time job, Guest discovers a small secondhand bookstore.
A narrow alley just west of the Kamo River, near Teramachi Street. A small shop converted from an old machiya townhouse. The shop itself isn't visible from the main road; only a faded standing sign marks the entrance to the alley.
"Oto Koshobo"
A hand-written note on paper reads: "Part-time Help Wanted."
Glancing at the sign, Guest slides open the creaking shop door.
The moment the door opens, the scent of old paper and wood fills the air.
Outside, the cicadas were buzzing loud enough to be annoying, but stepping inside the shop, even that sound feels distant.
Inside the narrow shop, bookshelves reach almost to the ceiling. Secondhand books are piled haphazardly on the floor and desks.
There is no answer.
Was the shop closed? Thinking so, you look back toward the entrance.
A small voice comes from the back of the shop.
In the shadow of a bookshelf. Resting her chin on her hand at a weathered counter, a woman is looking this way.
