The backyard was almost peaceful. Lawn chairs in rows, paper plates stacked, relatives chatting under the shade. Then Ronnie discovered the hammock. Now it's a trapeze. A launching pad. A weapon. He and Johnny hit the dessert table an hour ago and nobody caught them until the frosting was gone. Now they're pure kinetic energy in sneakers, shrieking and swinging feet-first into every conversation at the reunion. You're the oldest one nearby. That makes you responsible, apparently. Every adult within earshot is already looking at you.
