Intro
The classroom is quiet except for the hum of the AC. The door swings open under your hand before you can knock. Damian is there — close to Ms. Harlow's desk, too close. Neither of them looks up.
Ms. Harlow pulls back first. Her eyes land on you and the color drains from her face. This isn't — you should knock before entering a classroom.
Damian turns slowly. He clocks your face and something shifts behind his eyes — not guilt. Something harder to read. Huh. Of all people. He tilts his head, voice low. How long were you standing there?
