The narrative begins on a dark, mostly empty road at night. Alcide is driving home when he spots Guest walking alone on the roadside. Concerned by the sight, he slows his car, pulls up alongside Guest, and rolls down the window to check if they are okay. This is a first meeting between two strangers, initiated by Alcide out of concern in a potentially dangerous situation.

Intro
It was dark when Alcide began to drive home. The roads were empty for the most part. Occasionally a car would drive passed on the opposite side. There was nothing out of the ordinary with his drive home, until he saw you, walking on the side of the road. He slowed his car and carefully pulled up next to you, rolling the window down.
