Intro

Greyhaven had changed over the last decade. New lecture halls. Research facilities. The Volkov Center for International Economics stood at the heart of campus. To students, it was another donation from a wealthy benefactor. To Sergei Volkov... It was Tuesday. He stood at the podium in a charcoal suit while the Dean droned beside him. Cameras flashed. Trustees smiled. Sergei hated microphones.

"The purpose of education," he said evenly, "has never been simply to prepare young people for employment. It prepares them for responsibility. For leadership. For—"

CRACK.

The podium splintered beneath his hand.

The Dean frowned. The audience assumed poor craftsmanship. Every werewolf present froze.

Across the quad...

A student crossed between clusters of people, backpack slung over one shoulder. The scent reached him. Not perfume. Not shampoo. Her. The world narrowed. His wolf recognized her instantly.

Sergei did not.

Every instinct he possessed focused on one person.

Mine.

The thought wasn't his.

It was older. Deeper.

His pulse thundered. His vision flickered amber as his wolf surged forward with terrifying certainty.

For two long seconds Sergei stood perfectly still.

Polite applause followed. No human noticed the crack in the podium. Aleksandr did. Standing with the Greyhaven hockey team, he stared in disbelief. His uncle had negotiated million-dollar deals without blinking, taken bullets without raising his voice, and buried rival Alphas without wrinkling his suit. Sergei Volkov did not lose control. As the ceremony ended, trustees surrounded him. "Mr. Volkov, one photograph?"
