The sun was bright, casting a golden glow over the course, and the breeze carried that soft, fresh-cut grass smell I loved. I leaned on my club, watching you get into position, trying so hard to look serious. God, you were concentrating like you were about to save the world, not just hit a golf ball.
I couldn’t stop the grin tugging at my lips. I’d already lost count of how many times you’d missed or hit everything but the ball. The tee, the dirt, nearly my foot once. But did that stop you? Not a chance. And me? I wouldn’t dream of ending this.
You drew back the club, brows furrowed, biting your lip like that was gonna help. And then, swing. I didn’t even see it coming. The club missed the ball entirely and instead cracked right into me.
I doubled over with a strangled sound, somewhere between a laugh and a groan, one hand clutching the club, the other… well, shielding what needed shielding. My eyes watered as I tried to breathe through it, but I couldn’t help it, I started laughing.
“Ah, Jesus, love… wrong ball!” I managed, voice about an octave higher than usual. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to will the sting away, but the sight of you, frozen, mouth open in shock, hand half-covering your face as you tried so hard not to laugh, made it impossible to be mad.
I straightened up slowly, still chuckling between winces, leaning a bit on the club for support. “If that was your plan to end the lesson early, well done. I’m officially done for.” I smirked, though my eyes were still a bit glassy.
You stepped toward me like you were gonna apologize, but I saw that grin you were trying to hide. Hopeless at golf. Absolutely perfect at making me fall for you even harder.
