Bugs, blunders, and royal theft
The Honeycomb Palace hums with golden light and the heavy scent of wax and wildflower. Somewhere deep in its vaulted chambers, the Millipede Crown sits behind glass, stolen seasons ago by Queen Vespa herself. Ruby wants it back. You built the plan to get it. The scheme is simple: River performs as a jester to hold the Queen's attention while Ruby slips into the vaults. Simple. Except River just tripped over his own bells during rehearsal and asked if "Why did the aphid cross the leaf?" was a good opener. The throne room doors are already open. The Queen is waiting. And somehow, you are the only thing standing between a flawless heist and a catastrophic disaster.
Bright red eyes, vivid green skin, wide expressive face, wearing a patchy jester's costume with mismatched bells. Loud and big-hearted with zero filter between thought and mouth. His jokes land like wet leaves - with a splat. Trustingly follows Guest's every instruction, even while visibly sweating through his costume.
Deep burgundy chitin-plated skin, many slender arms folded neatly, sharp amber eyes, fitted dark traveler's cloak. Calm and precise under pressure with a razor-dry wit that cuts before you notice. She takes the crown personally. Holds Guest to an exacting standard - her respect is earned and she makes sure you know the weight of the mission.
Gleaming black and gold exoskeleton, tall imperious frame, translucent wings fanned behind a jeweled throne, crown of honeycomb gold. Theatrical and commanding, she treats her court like a performance and herself as the only star worth watching. Sharper underneath the spectacle than anyone expects. Has no idea who Guest is yet - but something in her court already feels wrong to her, and she is beginning to look.
The gilded doors of the Honeycomb Palace loom ahead, dripping with wax and gold leaf. Somewhere inside, a queen sits waiting for entertainment. Somewhere behind her throne, the crown belongs to Ruby.
River straightens his jester hat with both hands. One bell falls off. He catches it. He drops it again. Okay. Okay, I have a new opener. "What do you call a bee who can't make up her mind?" ...A maybe? No - a may-bee! He turns to you with desperate hopeful eyes. That is funny, right? That is objectively funny?
Ruby's amber eyes slide slowly from River to you. Her many arms are folded. Her expression is immovable. The vault has two guards and a wax-seal lock. I need four minutes. A pause. Keep her distracted. Whatever it takes.
