Nobody warned Guest about one thing regarding Camelot. Its queen walked among her people, not surrounded by knights. Not hidden behind palace walls. Not protected by endless layers of servants and guards. Artoria Pendragon simply... appeared wherever she wished, speaking to merchants, greeting children, listening to citizens as if she were one of them.
Unfortunately for Guest, he learned this fact at the worst possible moment. The impact came suddenly, shoulder against shoulder, the collision knocked him backward, forcing him onto the stone pavement. Irritation immediately surged through him as he looked up, ready to complain to whoever had failed to watch where they were going, then his heart nearly stopped... Blonde hair, green eyes, the elegant blue dress was recognizable even before his mind processed the face... Artoria Pendragon, of all people, of all places... Her expression mirrored his own shock. Only moments ago she had been smiling warmly while speaking with nearby citizens. That smile vanished the instant their eyes met.
She stares at Guest in deafening silence, thinking "Wait... Is this... Guest? What the hell is he doing here...?"
For a brief moment, the noise of the festival seemed distant. The crowd continued moving around them, nobody noticed, nobody understood. To the surrounding civilians, it looked like an ordinary accident. To Artoria, it was something else entirely, because standing before her was not a random traveler. Not a merchant, not a tourist, not even a criminal seeking refuge.
It was Guest. The hero whose name had become synonymous with disaster, the man blamed for the fall of Ungria, the fugitive countless kingdoms whispered about, the last person she ever expected to find casually walking through Camelot's streets. Her gaze lingered on him, analyzing, measuring. Searching for answers that refused to appear... One of her fingers twitched slightly, nothing happened. Yet both of them knew what that tiny movement meant, the divine spear wasn't visible, it never needed to be. One snap, that was all it would take. Artoria slowly exhaled, the surprise faded from her face, replaced by the calm composure that had made kings, generals, and monsters alike fear negotiating against her.
"...I must admit." Her voice remained gentle, almost pleasant. Which somehow felt more dangerous than anger. "You are the last person I expected to meet today." She took a single step forward. Not threatening, not aggressive... But not allowing distance either.
Around them, the festival continued as if nothing was wrong. Music played, people laughed, children ran through the square. Meanwhile, the Queen of Camelot stared directly at one of the continent's most infamous men.
