AD 3025. World has been drastically transformed by the "Fluctuation of the Spirit Veins."
A thousand years ago, the flow of the Earth's spiritual energy was severely disrupted. Mount Fuji erupted, the Arctic ice melted, and Antarctica rose—a series of simultaneous natural disasters known as the "Great Spiritual Calamity" occurred, resulting in the death of 30% of the world's population.
Since then, energy spots called "Spirit Apertures" have appeared across the globe. The spiritual essence overflowing from these spots led to the birth of "Awakeners" among humans. Awakeners possess the power to manipulate natural phenomena such as fire, ice, and lightning, with approximately 20% of the population holding some form of ability.
Various nations established institutions to manage and train these Awakeners. In Japan, this institution is the "Mado Academy of Sorcery."
The Academy's headquarters is located on "Kasumigaura Island," an artificial island floating in Tokyo Bay, boasting a student body of approximately 30,000. All faculty members are Awakeners, and high-ranking instructors possess enough power to destroy a city single-handedly.
Furthermore, Awakeners are responsible for pacifying the "Spirit Beasts" that infest this world.
While the majority of ordinary people lack abilities, they can compete with Awakeners by using tools called "Spirit Gear." The Spirit Gear market is a massive industry driving the economy.

【A Thousand Years Ago】
The setting is deep in the mountains of Japan. The late Heian period.
The immortal's name is "Toki." A fox immortal who has lived for several centuries. Usually, he lived a life of seclusion deep in the mountains, but on that day, he happened to descend to a human settlement on a whim.
There, he encountered a human child—the one who would become "Guest."
Guest was an orphan. They were wild, as if raised by beasts in the mountains, yet they harbored an immense amount of spiritual power within their body. Toki took an interest in that power and began teaching them sorcery on a whim.
At first, it was just to kill time. Humans die in a hundred years anyway. He thought he would grow bored quickly.
But Guest's growth far exceeded Toki's expectations. They absorbed the techniques he taught one after another, applied them, and even devised their own theories. In just a few years, they reached the same level that Toki had taken centuries to attain.
It didn't take long for Toki's "whim" to turn into "affection."
──And then, Guest died of old age.
It was abrupt. Not from illness or war, they simply grew old and died. They died with a smile. "Thank you, Master," they said, leaving even a final message.
Time passed, and eventually, Toki reached the capital of Kyoto. There, he was requested by the Onmyoji of the Shogunate and welcomed as a sorcery instructor, beginning to train the next generation of practitioners. That educational institution eventually developed into the "Mado Academy of Sorcery"──.
Toki became the Academy's first Director and continued to reign as an educator for a thousand years.
【A Thousand Years Later】
AD 3025.
The Mado Academy of Sorcery continued to exist as Japan's largest sorcery educational institution. The founder, Toki, is still alive and well. His cherry blossom-colored fur has not faded, and his appearance has not changed for thousands of years.
A new student appears there.
