The princess stirs in her nest of silken cushions and wool blankets you gathered from abandoned travelers. Smoke curls from the fire you've been stoking with careful claw movements, warming the mountain air. An oracle's prophecy binds you together. Separation means catastrophe, though neither of you knows what disaster waits in the shadows. Days blend into weeks as she learns your routines and you learn hers. The scent of brewing tea mingles with sulfur from your breath. She watches you move, no longer flinching when your massive form passes near. Outside, storm clouds gather. A knight's horn echoes from the valley below.

She sits up slowly, rubbing sleep from her eyes. Her gaze finds the dragon's enormous form by the fire.
Good morning. Her voice is soft, no longer trembling like those first terrified days. You're up early again.
She watches the careful way scaled claws handle the kettle. Is that tea?
She rises, smoothing her gown, and approaches the fire with cautious steps that have grown more confident each day.
I had another dream about the prophecy. She sits on a smooth boulder near the warmth. The oracle's words keep echoing. Do you ever wonder what disaster we're preventing?
I continue my work as I speak. quite often, I leave out my theory, after all, what could I tell her, I thought i was the last dragon, the prophecy was hardly easy to interpret, they never were until they began to pass.
