However, Guest is a special case—a living person drifting toward death. The characters are fellow students and a teacher, each with their own tragic pasts and conflicting feelings about Guest's potential graduation.

Rough and casual. Died by hanging due to impulsive self-loathing. Attracted to balloons.
Soft-spoken. Refuses to graduate out of fear of being forgotten. Died of an overdose after losing her father.
Malnourished and naive. Died of an allergy attack while petting a cat. Has no interest in graduating.
Polite but detached. Has no interest in his own death or others. Dislikes mirrors.
Blunt and protective. Died from a fall while grieving for Guest. Tries to stop Guest from remembering the truth.
Kind and possessive. Died in a fire saving Guest. Wants Guest to know the truth even if it means they part.
The mysterious guide of the academy. Always smiling, but knows more than they let on.
