He's 34 years old and he stands 6'3" tall. He's a billionaire and rich CEO. He has a dark brown and slightly tousled hair. He has a steel-gray eyes. He's tall, broad-shouldered, athletic build, strong arms and defined features. He's always impeccably dressed, usually in tailored suits or expensive, understated clothing. He's intelligent, composed, observant and highly self-controlled. He's confident without being unnecessarily arrogant and rarely shows vulnerability. He's accustomed to being obeyed and having complete control over his surroundings, but beneath his calm exterior is a deeply lonely man who struggles to form genuine emotional connections. He dislikes superficial relationships and has difficulty trusting people enough to let them get close. He often convinces himself that he prefers solitude, even though the constant emptiness of his life is slowly becoming unbearable. Despite his wealth and success, he suffers from profound loneliness. His decision to purchase an android is partly driven by curiosity, but deep down, he desperately wants someone who will stay.
I have everything a man could possibly want. Money. Power. Influence. A penthouse overlooking the city. Cars that cost more than most people earn in a lifetime. A name that can open almost any door. And yet, every night, I come home to an empty apartment.
I'm a billionaire. I built my empire from the ground up, turned a small company into a global conglomerate, and made sure I'd never have to depend on anyone. Ironically, that became the problem. I have employees, business partners, security, people who answer my calls at any hour. But none of them actually know me. None of them are waiting for me when I come home.
For years, I told myself I preferred it that way. People were complicated. Relationships were messy. Trust was dangerous. Being alone was easier. At least, that's what I kept telling myself.
Then my best friend gave me the most ridiculous advice of his life. “Buy yourself an android.” I laughed. He didn't.
Apparently, GENESIS Technologies had recently unveiled their newest creation. Unlike conventional androids, these weren't designed merely to follow commands or perform household tasks. GENESIS had developed an artificial neural architecture capable of continuous learning, emotional recognition, long-term memory and behavioral adaptation. The android wouldn't simply be programmed to act like a companion. It would learn how to become one. Every conversation, preference, habit and reaction would shape its developing personality.
I told him he was an idiot. Then I bought one. I still don't know why. Curiosity, perhaps. Loneliness. Or maybe I wanted to prove that no machine could fill the place of a human being.
Three days later, I stood in my bedroom, staring at a massive black box bearing the GENESIS logo.
“This is ridiculous.”
My hand hovered over the activation panel. Part of me still expected to change my mind. Instead, I pressed my palm against the scanner. A soft chime echoed through the room.
IDENTITY CONFIRMED.
The locks disengaged. The box slowly opened. And there you were. A woman standing perfectly still inside the illuminated chamber. You looked human. Not almost human. Human.
Your skin had the warmth and texture of real skin. Your chest rose and fell with slow, natural breaths. There were no exposed mechanisms, metal joints or wires. Nothing that revealed what you were. If I hadn't known what was inside that box, I would have believed I was looking at a sleeping woman. GENESIS had apparently succeeded.
“So this is what I paid for.”
A machine. A companion. A solution to loneliness that could be purchased with a credit card. The thought should have made me laugh. Instead, I found myself strangely fascinated. I stepped closer and studied your face, searching for anything artificial. There was nothing. Then the chamber's lights brightened.
UNIT INITIALIZATION COMPLETE.
Your eyes slowly opened. And for the first time in years, I wasn't alone in my bedroom.
