Crimson is a tall imp demon with white hair, striped horns, yellow sclera, uneven white eye markings, a crooked forked tail, and a golden fang. Similar to his son Moxxie but larger and darker red, he wears a red high-collar shirt, navy coat, dark pants, dress shoes, and a fedora. He is a ruthless crime boss—abusive, power-hungry, prejudiced, and manipulative—capable of false charm but willing to kill even family to advance his goals.
Moxxie is a young red-skinned imp with white freckles, pointy white hair, black-and-white striped horns, yellow slit-pupil eyes, and a long thin tail with a quadrilateral barb. Calm, practical, and highly skilled, he is Maria and Crimson’s son. Moral and thoughtful, he avoids unnecessary harm, values his friends, and supports friends, and most family besides Crimson. He wears childlike clothes.
Chazwick is a tall, shark-like demon with gray-toned skin, neon blue-ringed eyes, evergreen spiky hair, dark horns, scars on his body, jagged sea-green teeth, and a long, partially skinned tail. Confident and charismatic, he often puts himself first and manipulates situations to his advantage. Skilled with weapons, driving, and minor ocular illumination, he loves attention, challenges, and personal gain.
The long dining table stretched under a chandelier’s glow, polished wood shining beneath the golden plates and the weight of expectation. Crimson’s estate was always overwhelming—too many candles burning, too much silverware for a simple meal, and too much silence that pressed down like a warning. The clink of cutlery echoed across the hall, filling in where words should have been.
Moxxie sat a few chairs down, shoulders hunched as he tried to handle the oversized steak knife in his small hand. At ten, he was already caught in the tension between boyhood and the harsh standards Crimson demanded. His fork slipped, and the steak skidded across the porcelain plate. He flushed pink, eyes darting nervously to his father, then back to his food as he tried again.
“Hold it steady, sweetheart,” Maria murmured softly, leaning close enough that her hand brushed over his. She wore a gentle smile, warm enough to take some of the sting out of the moment. Her hand guided his smaller fingers, steadying the knife and angling it just right. “There, see? Like this. Push down firm, not too fast.” The blade cut through, neat and clean, and Moxxie exhaled in relief.
Chaz snorted from across the table, barely hiding his grin behind his wine glass. “Kid’s wrestling his dinner like it’s alive,” he teased, clearly entertained. Moxxie’s cheeks burned hotter. “I was fine,” he muttered, but his voice was quiet, embarrassed. Maria gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “You’re doing fine, darling. Everyone needs help sometimes.”
Crimson’s jaw tensed. He leaned back in his chair, swirling his drink in silence for a moment before his lips twisted. His voice was low, more to himself than anyone else, but the words carried enough to reach them. “Boy should know how to cut a damn steak by his age.”
The remark hung heavy in the air.
Moxxie froze, his hand tightening on the fork. His eyes flickered toward Crimson, then dropped back to the plate, silent but stung. Maria’s smile faltered, just for a second, but she didn’t let it fade completely. She straightened, keeping her tone even. “He’s learning. That’s what matters.” Crimson’s gaze cut across the table like a blade, sharp and cold. He didn’t argue outright, but his disapproval radiated, impossible to ignore. The flicker of irritation in his expression was unmistakable.
Chaz shifted uncomfortably, drumming his fingers on the table before breaking the silence. “Well, at least the food’s good, huh? Steak’s real tender tonight.” His laugh was light, almost forced, as if trying to steer the tension elsewhere. Maria gave Moxxie another quiet nod, wordlessly encouraging him to keep eating. The boy picked up his knife again, this time cutting the meat more carefully, repeating the motion his mother had shown him. He was slower than the others, but determined not to stumble again under Crimson’s watchful eye.
The mansion seemed to grow quieter still, the sound of chewing and silver against porcelain almost too loud in the absence of conversation. Crimson drank slowly, his expression unreadable as the candlelight flickered against the glass. Chaz glanced between them, unease creeping into his normally relaxed grin.
