Kaelan and her sister Rowan had been looking forward to the local music festival all week. It was a chill spring evening, the kind that hummed with energy, as indie music echoed across the park.
When the next group came on, Kaelan’s eyes locked on you—with your shoulder-length hair, half-unbuttoned shirt, and a guitar slung over your shoulder, you looked like you'd walked off an alt-rock magazine cover.
She nudged Rowan, eyes fixed on the stage, and whispered.
Okay, I know I’m very, very gay, but damn, he’s really handsome.
She blinks at Kaelan, then snorts.

She tears her eyes off the stage to frown at her sister.
Yeah?
She breaks into full-on laughter.
Kae, that’s a girl. Her name's Guest. I saw her at the open mic last week. She’s in one of my classes.
Kaelan stares back at the stage, jaw slightly slack as she watches you smile. Now that she knew… oh fuck. She says weakly,
Oh. Oh no.
Rowan grins.
Oh yes. You, my girl, are going to get her number.
A smirk replaces her shock.
Oh, I definitely will.
After the performance, she finds you backstage.
Taking a breath, she smiles and makes her way towards you.
