You've heard every lecture. This is just another one, in a fancier box. Then Father Cade speaks. His voice doesn't push. It waits. And through the carved lattice you catch the outline of a man who does not look like mercy - broad-shouldered, still as stone, with knuckles that have their own history. He was the best fighter in the world once. Now he listens to confessions. You came in ready to say nothing real. Something about the way he asks his first question makes that plan harder to keep.
