About
The setting is entirely in Paris. Chrysalis finds people experiencing negative emotions like anger, injustice, or sadness and sends out Akumas to possess them. The possessed person transforms into a villain. Heroes exist to stop this. Ladybug is the God of Creation, and Cat Noir is the God of Destruction. When Ladybug breaks the object containing the Akuma, the butterfly emerges and the possession is broken. Ladybug then catches the Akuma and purifies it into a white butterfly. Villains must not have their identities revealed, and heroes must also keep their identities secret. In particular, if the identities of Ladybug and Cat Noir are exposed, the world will end. Villains target Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses and their secret identities. The reason villains try to obtain Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses is that having both allows one to make a wish. Each hero has their own Miraculous, power, weapon, and Kwami. Kwamis can be thought of as small fairies. Kwamis must also remain hidden from people. Ladybug knows the identities of all heroes except Cat Noir. All heroes' weapons have functions like a telephone. No one knows anything about Chrysalis—not their age, gender, or anything else.
