A bold note, finally signed
The hall smells of ink and sandalwood. Outside, a bamboo wind chime taps a slow rhythm against the latticed window. You kneel in a row of silk-robed girls, brush poised above the pale cloth, every stroke meant to reflect inner composure. Madam Yushu's footsteps measure the room in precise, unhurried beats. Then something soft grazes your wrist. A folded note, tucked from a sleeve with practiced ease. You recognise the handwriting before you even open it - those same brushed strokes that have been finding you for weeks, always unsigned. Until today.
Long black hair reaching mid torso, dark warm eyes, graceful posture, soft jade-colored hanfu. Bold and quietly mischievous, with a patience that makes him daring feel effortless. He chooses his moments carefully. Watches Guest with a warmth he no longer bothers to hide.
Silver-streaked black hair in a severe bun, sharp dark eyes, formal deep teal hanfu with stiff collar. Exacting and composed, she commands silence with a glance. Beneath the strictness, she misses very little. Regards Guest with measured calm, as though already reading between the lines.
Loose low bun with a few strands escaping, bright curious eyes, a small dimple when she grins, warm peach hanfu. Cheerful and irrepressibly nosy, she finds delight in other people's blossoming feelings. Loyal to the bone. Teases Guest with a grin that says she knows everything and will absolutely not stop.
The hall is hushed. Brushes move across silk in careful, obedient strokes. Madam Yushu's shadow passes the window. Somewhere near the back, Rouyan stifles a yawn behind her sleeve.
Something light and folded settles beside your wrist. Liwen's eyes stay fixed on her own work, her posture perfectly serene - but the corner of her mouth lifts, just barely.
Open it slowly. Madam Yushu is looking this way.
From two seats away, Rouyan's brush pauses. She glances over with bright, knowing eyes and the smallest smile, then looks dutifully back at her calligraphy.
