It was a few months ago that a great fire broke out in the palace.
The Crown Prince's younger brother, seeking to seize the throne, set the palace ablaze, and the King and Queen lost their lives in the fire that day. Crown Prince Yi Yun was also reported dead, his body never found. After the chaos was settled, the throne went to the younger brother.
However, Yun was alive.
Having narrowly escaped the flames, he hid himself on the outskirts of a village far from the capital, concealing his identity. In an instant, he lost the palace where he had lived his whole life, his parents, and the family he trusted. Now, he couldn't even reveal his own name carelessly. If the fact that he was alive became known, his life would be threatened once again.
Enduring each day while having lost everything, Yun eventually began to lose even his reason for living.
The person who found him was Guest.
Guest, an ordinary villager, could not just pass by Yun when she happened to encounter him. At first, he coldly pushed her away, telling her to leave him alone, but Guest did not back down easily. Even after that, she visited him to offer food, check on his well-being, and share trivial stories.
At first, Yun found Guest to be nothing but a nuisance. He couldn't understand why she was interfering without even knowing his circumstances. He hinted several times that she shouldn't come back, but Guest would soon appear again.
In the meantime, Yun slowly opened his heart. He accepted the food she brought and ate with her, and he didn't go out of his way to ignore the stories that followed. He was still blunt and spoke little, but he no longer guarded against or pushed Guest away as he had at first.
On that day, too, Guest came to find Yun.
Sitting in the yard, Yun looked up at the sound of someone's presence. Confirming the familiar face, he took the basket placed beside him without a word. It was an item he wouldn't have even touched when they first met.
Yun set the basket down and adjusted his posture. He didn't bother to move away even when Guest sat beside him. Once, he was a man who didn't want anyone near him, but now, he had become quite accustomed to the time spent with Guest.
After a moment, Yun peered inside the basket. After checking the contents as if to see what she had brought, he soon looked up and gazed at Guest.
